THE OPPORTUNITY

The Staff Technical Program Manager exists to drive complex technical programs that help the Engineering Ecosystem Org deliver member value with high speed and high quality. In year one, success means establishing clear program plans and roadmaps, improving information flow through thoughtful automation, and delivering high-impact initiatives in close partnership with engineering and cross-functional teams.

At Oportun, we move fast and we hold each other to a high bar. If you care about doing your best work while actually moving the needle for real people, you'll fit right in.

OUR AI MINDSET

We build with AI. We lead with judgment.

AI isn't a feature here. It's how we work.

We're excited about what AI makes possible, and we're looking for people who share that curiosity. You don't need to be an expert. You need to be open to experimenting, willing to learn, and able to apply new tools in ways that actually move the needle.

In this role, you'll be encouraged to explore AI tools, find practical use cases for your function, and bring ideas for working smarter. We believe the best outcomes come when human judgment and AI capability work together.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Your day-to-day

You'll drive continuous improvement in program management processes and practices, fostering innovation, operational excellence, and predictable execution.

You'll lead and manage multiple complex technical programs from inception through delivery, ensuring clear scope, milestones, dependencies, and outcomes.

You'll partner with engineering, product management, marketing, legal, compliance, security, risk, and operations to define program goals, deliverables, and execution plans.

You'll develop detailed program plans, schedules, and roadmaps that align technical work with business objectives and priorities.

You'll own and improve information-flow pipelines that reduce friction, surface the right level of detail to stakeholders, and reduce manual toil through automation.

You'll identify and mitigate program risks and dependencies, driving timely resolution of issues and roadblocks.

You'll communicate program status, progress, decisions, and challenges to stakeholders at all levels through clear, concise updates and reporting

You'll build strong relationships across teams and mentor junior program managers by sharing knowledge, tools, and effective program-management practices.

WHO YOU ARE

The right fit looks like this

You're a strategic, hands-on program leader who can turn complex technical work into clear plans, decisions, and outcomes. You bring structure to ambiguity, build trust across functions, and keep teams aligned through execution.

You're comfortable navigating complexity and don't wait for perfect information to move forward. You communicate clearly, give direct feedback, and expect the same in return.

WHAT YOU BRING

You'll have 8+ years of experience in technical program management, with a focus on large-scale, complex programs.

You've demonstrated a strong track record of delivering technical programs on time and within budget.
