For this, we are looking for a Senior AI & Automation Engineer (m/f/d) who understands operational processes, converts manual and error-prone workflows into stable end-to-end automations, and reliably implements, develops, and operates them with the team. Automations will be realized both with and without AI agents, primarily based on n8n. The focus of this role is on operational execution and the continuous optimization of automations as a lever for efficiency, quality, and scalability.
Your Responsibilities
- End-to-end responsibility for building, developing, and operating complex process automations (primarily with n8n)
- Conceptualization, implementation, and operation of AI agents, including prompting, tool routing, and guardrails at the highest level
- Development and maintenance of API integrations for all relevant systems (Shopify, Personio, Slack, Meta, Logistics, Payment, etc.)
- Analysis of existing company processes and independent translation into scalable technical solutions
- Building high-quality dashboards (Front-end) for internal departments
- Monitoring, debugging, and continuous optimization—with the goal of ensuring everything is always up to date and stable
- Data preparation and analysis (SQL, BigQuery) to identify automation and optimization potential
- Close collaboration with departments (including Customer Support, Finance, Operations, Marketing) to improve processes sustainably
- Establishing structures, documentation, and standards so that everyone on the team can continue the work
- Documentation of automations, decisions, and best practices to ensure quality and scalability
Your Profile
- 5-6 years of professional experience with automation tools such as n8n, Make, Zapier, Workato, or comparable systems—or strong developer skills with the ability to onboard quickly
- Deep understanding of API integrations (REST, GraphQL, Webhooks, OAuth2)
- Very good knowledge of JavaScript / TypeScript and solid experience in developing technical workflows and automations
- Proficiency with JSON, data structures, and complex data mapping
- Good SQL skills (JOINs, aggregations, filters, data validation)
- Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and AI agents (including tool calls & routing)
- Strong debugging skills and structured problem-solving competence
- Independent, responsible working style with high quality standards
- Clear, precise communication—even with non-technical stakeholders
- You enjoy coming to the office and prefer direct contact
- High learning agility, pragmatism, and great enthusiasm for AI, automation, and process thinking
- Ideally, experience with Shopify, Personio, or Slack APIs
- Knowledge of BigQuery or other data warehouse solutions is a plus
- Python knowledge or experience with cloud platforms (GCP/AWS) is desirable
- Basic understanding of e-commerce and operations processes is a plus
- Leadership experience or experience in building automation teams or departments is a plus
