Your Impact
We are looking for an experienced Central Office installer based in California who knows what it takes to work inside active carrier facilities. As a Level 3 technician, you will complete skilled installation, testing, and integration assignments as part of a crew led by a Level 4 Working Lead. This position is dedicated to Central Office work. Direct experience with -48V DC distribution, fuse panels or BDFBs, equipment installation, fiber and copper cabling, approved MOPs, and carrier standards such as TP76300 is important. Experience limited to outside plant, residential, commercial cabling, or data-center-only installations does not meet the required carrier Central Office background. A strong candidate can describe Central Office work they personally completed in the field, how they verified material and measurements, and how they documented testing and closeout. Primary assignments are at Central Offices across California.
Core Responsibilities
- 01Participate in job-start installation walkthroughs; verify actual equipment locations, cable routing and measurements, materials, site access, work restrictions, and safety requirements against project documents.
- 02Install, modify, and remove Central Office transport, transmission, switching, and routing equipment; install relay racks, bays, cable racks, pathways, and associated infrastructure.
- 03Install and terminate -48V DC power cabling, equipment power leads, fuse panel/BDFB connections, grounding, and bonding within qualifications and approved scope; perform power-related work only under authorized procedures and supervision.
- 04Install, route, lace, secure, terminate, label, and test fiber-optic, copper, coaxial, DC power, and grounding cables in accordance with customer standards.
- 05Read and follow job specifications, engineering drawings, cable running lists, wiring diagrams, schematics, MOPs, and test requirements; record differences between drawings and actual site conditions.
- 06Perform approved continuity, polarity, connectivity, fiber and copper tests, equipment checks, alarm verification, and turn-up support; record results accurately.
- 07Compare part numbers, material quantities, cable lengths, and site measurements with the issued installation package; report shortages or discrepancies to the Level 4 Lead for Engineering/PM resolution before affected work begins.
- 08Follow daily assignments and approved MOPs; coordinate with the Level 4 Lead before changes to scope, work sequence, or operating systems, and stop work when unsafe or unauthorized conditions arise.
- 09Complete daily progress updates, labeled QA photographs, test records, material usage notes, drawing redlines, and closeout documentation for assigned work.
- 10Support Level 4-led field inspections, corrective actions, customer walkthroughs, and final acceptance; assist less-experienced technicians when directed by the assigned lead.
- 11Take ownership of the accuracy, safety, workmanship, productivity, and documentation of assigned Central Office installation tasks; work as part of the team under the Level 4 Lead.
- 12Identify and immediately escalate material shortages, drawing conflicts, access limitations, measurement discrepancies, and operating-equipment risks before they delay or affect the installation.
- 13Maintain required field records, approved MOP references, testing evidence, photo logs, marked-up drawings, and accurate time and expense documentation for personal assignments.
- 14Provide clear updates on completed work, remaining work, and open issues to the Level 4 Lead and Project Management; support additional quality reviews when required and help resolve any deficiencies. The result: Assigned installations are completed safely to approved drawings and standards, discrepancies are raised before they become rework, and test results, photos, and redlines are accurate. Specific duties may vary or evolve over time based on business and client needs.
Core Experience
High school diploma or GED; technical school training in telecommunications, electronics, or a related field preferred.
- 15California home base required by the start date; applicants who can establish one before starting may be considered. Travel to carrier Central Office sites throughout California is required.
- 16Minimum five years of relevant telecommunications installation field experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience as determined by company management.
- 17Direct, hands-on installation experience inside carrier Central Offices is required; three or more years specifically in Central Offices strongly preferred.
- 18Demonstrated experience installing telecommunications equipment, -48V DC distribution connections, fiber/copper cabling, grounding, and associated infrastructure under approved work practices.
- 19Able to describe recent carrier Central Office installations personally completed, including equipment installed, approved work procedures, testing, and documentation.
- 20Experience completing assigned installation and testing work independently within a crew; crew-lead experience is not required for Level 3.
Physical/Work Environment
At Pearce safety is our number one concern. Candidates must be able to comply with OSHA Standards.
- 21Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, push or pull equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, walk, stand for extended periods, and work in restricted areas.
- 22Use the installation tools, test equipment, electronic documentation systems, and PPE appropriate to the assignment. At Pearce, we are committed to fair and transparent pay practices.
